over public day holidays, i've often threatened my mother that unless she comes up with some activity to do for that day, i'll very happily cuddle up to my favourite teddy bear and sleep till 5:55pm before getting up to watch seven's 6pm news. meaning mother was very happy to accept an invitation from aunty catherine/ping yee for a BBQ @ her place today. :P
we didn't arrive there till almost midday, but i jumped right into the cooking! the difference between aussie-style barbecues and hongkie-style ones is that, while for aussie-style ones, usually a guy stands @ the barbecue and cooks for everyone over a ... what are they called ... dunno, those flat metal plate things, for hongkie-style barbecues, every person holds their own tongs and slowly roasts their meat over the fire.
i started with a beef chop (are they really called that? like, it's definitely pork chop and lamb chop, but what about beef chop and chicken chop?), mother tossed in lotsa lettuce, then i followed with some pork balls, two chicken wings and one chicken chop.
binda and hairy wandered over for a chat, they're all on term break now, but the poor things are spending their holidays studying. ><"
afterwards, i headed inside, where aunty frances was teaching the girls how to make glutinous rice balls (say 'tong buck luck' in canto). but lol, they had to make two batches, coz for the first batch they accidentally added SALT instead of SUGAR! :P
before the glutinous rice balls made their appearance, mother and i both snacked on a mini-corn cob. i did try asking her please for a chopstick to prod through the middle, but mother decided that the corn cob was small enough to just eat with my hands. hey, no biggie. :)
when the rice balls arrived, i munched two before mother decided i couldn't have any. instead, i munched two delicious lindt chocolates until joey decided that two was enough. i wanted to ask joey please for one mug of milk, coz i'm of the opinion that chocolate ALWAYS taste better with milk! :D dunno why mother wouldn't allow me to ask, though ... another oh well.
after eating, i headed over and sat down @ the big table, where we all chatted away. the rest of the girls were all surfing the net with joey. aunty catherine told me that joey was born @ the QEII hospital while matthew was born @ sunnybank private. i wonder if the food there was good?
anyways, before mother tootled us home, she took me once more to the loo. back home, i tootled online.
next post here ... does our church picnic come first or labour day? quite possibly, labour day IS the day of our church picnic @ seventeen mile rock.:P well, until then!
cheers,
em. ^^
