Dragon Ball Super: Brolly

Back during the 90s, when I was still in primary school, my cartoon of choice every morning was Dragonball Z. Oh, Pokemon was awesome too (I only started losing track of their names when more were created after the original 150 XD) but every morning I’d watch DBZ before getting driven to school. Luckily I lived only five minutes drive away from school!

When I saw a preview of the new DBZ movie about to hit the screens, I knew I had to see it! Originally, mother said she’d take me, and like every single day I asked her could we please go see it yet, but everyday she refused, until I was like, “For goodness sakes, there’s only one session left at the cinemas! If you don’t take me to see it LIKE YOU PROMISED you would, I’m gonna be super-pissed!” How mother easily solved that problem: she found my carer to take me. XD The movie was called Dragon Ball Super: Broly. I’ll admit I’d never heard of any character called Broly before, but hey. I was never very well versed in the world of Dragon Ball! XD

Anyways, here are all my favourite trivia, goofs and quotes, courtesy of imdb:

Trivia first~

  • In this film Broly bears two significant marks on his body: a scar on the upper left of his abs, and a giant cross-shaped scar on his left pec. These reference his defeat in his previous appearances: Goku struck him in Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan (1993), and his heart exploded out his chest in Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming (1994). (A/N: You mean his heart EXPLODED out his chest and he lived to tell the tale?? O_o Gosh, that’s why I love cartoons. XD)
  • The hype for this film was so high that the tickets were sold out in Japan, 5 months before the official release.
  • When Akira Toriyama began to write Dragon Ball Super (2015), he was reluctant about adding the character Broly to the franchise, instead he wrote a character named Kale, who is a Saiyan, as an homage to Broly. However one of the series producers in early 2017 convinced him to add Broly into the series, so he wrote a new story for Broly and drew a new design, so this version could be different from the original films. (A/N: Umm … isn’t kale a vegetable? XD oh, but then you get all the vegetable sounding names in DBZ, so fair enough~)
  • With 1 hour and 40 min, this is the franchise's longest film to date. (A/N: Even though compared to human acting movies, it’s still pretty short!
  • Broly and Freeza have more screen time than Goku. (A/N: Unfair! They’re the bad guys!)
  • Tatsuya Nagamine had taken a vacation to Amalfi, Italy. He used his vacation photos from his trip as inspiration for Bulma's vacation home.
  • The first Dragon Ball film to not to focus on Goku or someone related to him. (A/N: I was just piossed that my favourite character, Gohan, didn’t even FEATURE! ><)
  • Broly's transformation into the SSJ is the more agressive in the series.
  • The only Dragon Ball film without blood.
  • The film will be Goku's mother, Gine, debut on the anime.
  • The first time in the franchise that Goku refers himself as Kakarrot. (A/N; Why? I’ve heard Vegeta call him Kakarrot too but where’d he get Kakarrot from Goku?
  • The second canonical Dragon Ball film that mentions Vegeta's brother Tarbles. (A/N: Just goes to show how I know like next-to-nothing about DBZ: I’d never even HEARD ofTarbles before! XD)
  • Contrary to the three original films, Broly is not killed and becomes friends with Goku. (A/N: Yeah, well I prefer happily-ever-after endings. XD)
  • In Dragon Ball Z planet Vegeta had an aspect of a dystopic city but with advanced technology, in this film, Planet Vegeta has a more prehistoric aspect but with a little of advanced technology.
  • Trunks, Goten, the Pilaf Gang and Beerus who had protagonic roles in the last two films are reduced to merely cameos. (A/N: But @ least they appeared! My favourite character, Gohan, was entirely LEFT OUT! ><)
  • The first in the franchise that a Fusion (Gogeta) defeats the main villain. Not considering the film: Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn (1995). (A/N: If you saw the film, the failed Fusions looked pretty funny, didn’t they? XD)

Hey, isn’t this movie perfect?? Imdb hasn’t recorded any goofs for it yet! Then this must be a pretty awesome film, eh? XD

Also, I didn’t come across any quotes I particularly liked, either … well, it’s just a cartoon and you can’t expect very deep and meaningful conversations from one! XD

Like most cartoon movies, this one only lasted about 1.5 hours. Still, I really loved it; for ninety-odd minutes, I rediscovered my inner kid. XD My only gripe was that my favourite character, Gohan, didn’t even FEATURE in it! I mean, Gohan was the dude that obliterated CELL!

Still, no complaints. ‘Twas a great movie!

Next post here … if I’m organised, perhaps another movie review? I only watched another movie last Wednesday! But if I’m not organised, you’ll not hear from me again till when my Birthday Wishlist comes out; it’s due March the 1st! Righteo, until then~

Cheers,

Em. ^^
